KENNEBUNK — Police in Kennebunk are warning the public about a new telephone scam targeting area residents.
Officers reported that they received a notification call of a telephone scam from a town resident late last month.
The person is claiming to be someone from UPS and is advising people to send them money in order to receive the package they have for them in the mail.
Police said that the scammer is able to provide an accurate full name and address of the person being scammed.
Investigators also say that someone claiming to be a representative of CVS is advising targeted area residents they need payment to receive medications from their doctor.
So far, the scammer has only called from “unknown” or “restricted” numbers, police said.
According to officers, members of the public should be aware and keep in mind what numbers they are receiving calls from.
They advise not giving out any personal information and said normally, UPS and CVS workers will not call asking for money to receive a package, and they usually don’t call from restricted or unknown numbers.
To report receiving a phone scam call, officers say Kennebunk residents should call the Kennebunk Police Department at 985-6121
