SOUTH PORTLAND – Award-winning South Portland artist Francine Schrock continues with another mural construction in Scarborough at Cabela’s. This will be her third Maine mural within the last nine months, as similar projects were completed at Schooner Estates in Auburn and Fallbrook Woods in Portland.
After a recently completed renovation project at the store’s firearm counter, the former NICS background check area was moved to a new location, leaving an otherwise “empty” looking space in its wake. A number of outfitters suggested that one of Schrock’s murals would be a great addition to the space. The suggestion was well received and Schrock began asking fellow outfitters for ideas of what they’d like to see on the wall. Following numerous preliminary sketches, the chosen image is of a father and son coming home from a successful turkey hunt. According to Schrock, “I really liked the idea of handing down a family tradition. I think that speaks to our human ‘nature’ on so many levels”.
Construction of the mural is scheduled to be completed over the next couple of weeks. The construction can be followed on Schrock’s Facebook page (www.facebook.com/francine.schrock), and the linked event page: Cabela’s Gun Counter Mural.
