The sequin-covered heels are back in their boxes and the limos have rolled out of sight, but few ever forget prom, the biggest social event on the high school calendar.

Since April, readers have sent us 239 prom photos representing 37 schools that stretched from Wells High School to Maine Central Institute in Pittsfield.

While we wish we could print them all, the available space allows us to only present a selection of this year’s prom snapshots.

As you’ll notice, each student’s prom look was unique, yet there are many trends to be spotted in these photos. Brightly colored jewel-tone gowns continued their reign this year.

Other notable choices include white gowns and printed dresses, although this last trend has waned a bit since last year.

The majority of girls selected floor-length gowns, and many of these dresses were strapless or featured a single shoulder strap. Rhinestones, sequins and other embellishments continued to adorn gowns this year. Another trend that’s showing no sign of abating is dresses with plunging necklines, low backs and midriff-bearing designs.

For the guys, black tuxedos with colorful ties and vests continued to be the go-to look. However, a few selected white tuxes and some opted for the traditional bow tie.

Even more eye-catching were the handful of guys who topped off their tuxes with bowler hats.
