New England Cancer Specialists, headquartered in Scarborough, has announced two new collaborations in its fight against cancer.
The first partnership is with the Tufts Medical Center in Boston, which is designed to greatly advance overall cancer care and provide outstanding survivorship resources, among other benefits, according to a press release.
New England Cancer Specialists is the largest provider of cancer services in Maine and now, through its collaboration with Tufts, patients will have access to complex treatments, such as bone marrow transplants, expert second opinions and access to innovative clinical trials, the press release said.
Together, the goal is to promote the creation of an Oncology Medical Home and to partner on precision medical techniques, including the application of immunotherapy specifically targeted to individual patients.
“Tufts Medical Center has a long tradition of working collaboratively with physicians outside Boston to ensure patients throughout New England have access to the best possible care,” said Dr. Tracey F. Weisberg, president and lead physician at New England Cancer Specialists. “When we were looking for a partner to help us bring the most advanced care possible to our patients Tufts was the clear choice.”
The other collaboration the New England Cancer Specialists announced recently is with the Cancer Moonshot 2020 initiative, which Weisberg said would also help to “ensure that patients throughout New England have access to the best possible cancer care.”
