Family Fun Night
On Friday, April 5, Family Fun Night will be held from 6:30-8 p.m. at Manchester School. Activities include games in the gym with Mr. Beal, including face painting, Bingo, Pictionary, chess and Family Feud. Mrs. Morton will be playing music in the cafeteria, YMCA, electric slide, limbo, Macarena and more. Bring the whole family for a night of fun. $3 admission to help Windham Land Trust and Manchester Technology.
Bean supper
On Saturday, April 6, a baked bean supper will be held from 4:30-6 p.m. at White Rock Community Club, Wilson Road, off Route 237. This is an all-you-can-eat supper serving beans, hot dogs, macaroni and cheese, salads, biscuits and homemade desserts. Adults $8, kids $4.
Benefit Supper
A spaghetti supper will be held on Saturday, April 6, from 4-8 p.m. at North Windham Union Church, Roosevelt Trail. This dinner will be to benefit Sandy Winde, a valued member of the community who has been stricken with a debilitating medical crisis. Tickets are $5 per person.
Democrats Meet
On Monday, April 8, the Windham Democratic Town Committee will meet at 7 p.m. at the Windham Public Library. Call Mark Bryant, Chair of the WDTC at 892-6591 with any questions.
Military Benefits
On Wednesday, April 10, Veterans Service Officer Phyllis D’Orsay is available at the Windham Veterans Center, as she is on the second and fourth Wednesdays every month, from 9 a.m. until noon. She assists veterans, widows of veterans and dependents with questions about benefits and other information. If you have questions of a military nature, stop in and get some answers. No appointment is needed.
Veterans Meet
Windham VFW Post 10643 will meet on Wednesday, April 10, at Windham Veterans Center. Supper at 5 p.m. followed by meeting at 6 p.m. Enter Veterans Memorial Drive by Friendly’s and follow to the end.
TNT Club
The TNT (Tweens-n-Teens) Club’s next meeting is Thursday, April 11, from 2:30-3:30 p.m. at Windham Public Library. It is free and for kids grades 6-12 (ages 10-18). Thrift Shop
The Thrift Shop at the North Windham United Church of Christ is open from 1-3 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday or 10 until noon Saturdays. The Thrift Shop is in the lower level of the church. Be sure to check out this great place to save.
On display
Artwork by Varvara Harmon, a Windham resident, is currently on exhibit at the Windham Public Library. The mixed-media works on display give the audience plenty to browse and enjoy, featuring stunning landscapes and beautiful still-lifes. Sound of Music
Sing-a-long
For a night of family fun, a “Sound of Music” sing-a-long will be held on Saturday, April 20, at Faith Lutheran Church, 988 Roosevelt Trail, North Windham. Come dressed as your favorite character from the movie for the costume contest with prizes. Refreshments will be available as well a participation bags given out to all who come. Doors open at 6 p.m. Limited seating. Tickets are $8 or two for $15. Call Mary at 627-7007 or Shelly at 583-2544 for tickets in advance. Partial proceeds to go to the Windham Food Pantry.
Free Tax Prep
Free federal and state of Maine income preparation and electronic filing is offered each Tuesday and Wednesday from 2-7 p.m. at Unity Gardens, located at 124 Tandberg Trail in Windham. All return preparation is done by IRS-certified volunteer income tax preparers and is open to taxpayers of all ages. To learn more or to make an appointment, call 894-5110. This program is run by AARP Tax-Aide, a program of the AARP Foundation, offered in conjunction with IRS.
Veterans Health Services
On Wednesday, April 17, combat veteran and Clinical Psychologist Dr. Clifford Trott from Portland Vet Center, is available at Windham Veterans Center for appointments with veterans seeking information and/or help. Call 780-3584 to make an appointment. These sessions are one-on-one and strictly confidential. Drop-ins are welcome but appointments are recommended.
Medicare Help?
On Tuesday, April 16, the Southern Maine Agency on Aging (SMAA) will offer a Medicare seminar and counseling for the Lakes Region at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church at 919 Roosevelt Trail, Windham. The seminar is from 10 a.m. to noon. In addition to the Medicare seminar, there will be one-on-one counseling with volunteer Medicare advocates available from 9 a.m. to noon. The seminar and counseling are intended to help you sort through your Medicare options, answer questions help you enroll. In addition to Medicare assistance, counseling on tax and rent rebate, food stamps, and fuel assistance can be arranged. Call SMAA to register for an upcoming seminar or to make a one-on-one appointment with a Medicare Advocate at 396-6500 or 1-800-427-7411. Walk-ins can usually be accommodated. Further opportunities for these services will occur monthly on the first and third Tuesdays at the same times and location. Food and Clothing
Windham Clothes Closet is a wonderful place to find clothing for all ages. This is a free resource and is open from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday, including residents of neighboring towns, by calling 892-1931. In addition to clothing, there is a huge selection of paperbacks and other items. The Food Pantry is open to Windham residents by appointment, Monday through Thursday. Senior citizens can come in on the first Monday morning. If you have any questions, call Madeline at 892-1931 Monday through Thursday. The Clothes Closet is at the same location as the Food Pantry, on Route 202, across from Friends Church and adjacent to the Public Safety Building.
