Windham police responded Wednesday afternoon to an accident involving a school bus with children aboard.

According to a Cumberland County dispatcher, the bus and a car operated by a suspended elderly driver collided at about 3:20 p.m. at the corner of Pope Road and Windham Center Road in the Windham Hill section of town. Motorists should avoid the area.

According to Sgt. David Bonneau, officers determined that Phyllis White, 86, of Westbrook, was driving north on Pope Road when the accident occurred. As she was crossing the Windham Center Road intersection she struck the school bus that was driving west on Windham Center Road.

No injuries were reported by any of the students on the bus, though Ms. White was transported to the hospital for precautionary reasons, Bonneau said. White was issued a criminal summons at the scene for driving while under suspension, he said.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
