Westbrook has hosted one of wrestling season’s first big tournaments for the past few winters, and this year was no different: More than a dozen teams descended on the school this past Saturday, Dec. 5, with Skowhegan emerging the big winner.

“It’s been a lot of fun, coaching these students this year,” said Scarborough head coach Deron Sharp, new to the team. “Each one has a lot of talent, individually, but more important than that, they come together, they work hard every day, and they take care of the little things, which makes you proud as a coach.”

The Storm wrestling program has been growing for a couple years now, and Sharp sees the kids’ efforts continuing to pay dividends in bigger and bigger ways. “Their hard work is starting to pay off,” he says. “We don’t have the most [athletes] we could have, but there’s clear evidence they’ve been coached well in the past. And they’re willing to get better – you can’t ask for more than that.”
