After an extensive and lengthy interview process, a unanimous decision was made by the SAD 6 hiring committee to hire Robert Strong as the new High School principal.

Many candidates applied to the position vacated by Sheila Jepson in June of this year.

“We received many applications, but we all thought Mr. Strong’s was the best. Everyone on the committee agreed,” said Assistant Superintendent Phil Blood.

After the committee selected Strong as their first choice they invited him to meet with groups of parents and students.

“It was a great experience. He seems very open to listening to students and involving them in making decisions,” said Blood. “We are very excited to have him at Bonny Eagle.”

Robert Strong has been the principal at Medomak Valley High School in midcoast Maine for the past eight years. Before that he was principal at Wiscasset High School. He has been an educator for more than 30 years.

Speaking about Strong’s time at Medomak Valley High School, superintendent Dr. Pamela J. Carnahan said in a written statement, “He has left a legacy of strong leadership, dedication to students and commitment to quality education.”

While principal at Medomak Valley, Strong implemented a plan requiring students and staff to wear identification badges while in school.

Lynn Brown retires

While Bonny Eagle welcomes a new principal they also prepare to say goodbye to veteran educator and current Assistant Principal Lynn Brown who will be leaving when a suitable replacement is found.

After careful thought and consideration, Brown, gave her resignation last week when she accepted a job at Saint Joseph’s College in Standish.

“I am sad to be leaving Bonny Eagle, it was a very hard decision for me,” Brown said. “But an opportunity presented itself and I was ready for a new challenge.”

Assistant Superintendent Phil Blood said, “Lynn Brown has given a lot to this school, she will be missed, but she is supported in what she is doing.”

Brown attended Bonny Eagle High School and has been an educator in the school district for 19 years. She accepted the job at Saint Joeseph’s knowing it would keep her close to the SAD 6 community.

“It was important to me that I would still be able to attend games and activities,” Brown said. “I will miss working with the kids, but I will still be around to see them.”

“I will certainly miss Lynn,” said Superintendent Suzanne Lukas. “And I look forward to her continued support in the community.”
