Haunted Woods Walk

Two nights of scare are being offered to mature audiences on Friday, Oct. 23, and Saturday, Oct. 24, at Pineland Farms. Make your way through a spooky corn maize to the haunted woods. Flashlights are required. Departure times for both nights are 6 p.m., 6:30 p.m., 7 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Purchase tickets for $5 per person at The Market and Welcome Center, 15 Farm View Drive, New Gloucester.

Harvest Festival at Pineland Farms

The second annual Harvest Festival at Pineland Farms promises a day filled with harvest activities for families with children of all ages from 10 a.m.-3 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 24. Ongoing activities feature farmers Olympics, apple cider making demonstration, corn maize, “click clack boo” woods walk, free showings of “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown,” face painting, tractors to explore, and a farm photo booth.

NGTV programming

A combination public hearing by the New Gloucester Planning Board and workshop by the town’s Land Management Planning Committee occurred on Sept. 1. The meeting was recorded by NGTV volunteers and is scheduled for telecast at 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., Friday-Sunday, Oct. 16-18, on cable access Channel 3. The program is also available for online viewing at www.newgloucester.com.

The subject of the public hearing is proposed zoning ordinance revisions that add a section pertaining to the Upper Village district. The workshop examines a draft of the “New Gloucester Upper Village Plan 2015.” A special town meeting is being planned for the fall.

Fall Work Day

The Friends of the Shakers welcomes the public to Sabbathday Lake Shaker Village, 707 Shaker Road, New Gloucester, for a fall work day on Saturday, Oct. 24. You’ll spend the day working at various assignments suitable for all ages.

Members and community volunteers will help ready the village for winter by raking, helping in the herb department, prepping the Shakers’ gardens, clearing brush, and more. The time window for chores is 9 a.m.-3 p.m. You are welcome to arrive at any time during these hours and stay for as long as possible. If you join in the noon meal, please bring a potluck side dish or dessert to share.

Pre-registration is encouraged, so call 926-4597 to sign up. There will be a registration table located at the back of the Brick Dwelling House and a task list to choose from at sign-in. All tools will be supplied; however, if you have a favorite pair of work gloves, feel free to wear them.

Dog licenses

Dog licenses are now available for the 2016 year at the New Gloucester town office or online for an extra $1 per dog under “Services” at www.maine.gov. Every dog needs to be licensed upon reaching the age of 6 months or after the dog has been with the family for 10 days, if adopted.

All dog licenses expire Dec. 31 of each year. Spayed or neutered dogs are $6 and unaltered are $11. If a new dog is being registered, bring the rabies vaccination certificate along with the spay/neutering certificate.

Snowmobile registrations

You may now license your snowmobile for the 2015/2016 season. If your snowmobile was purchased in a private sale (no dealer involved), a bill of sale and the old registration are needed. Sales tax will be collected at the time of registration.

Pineland to host farmland conference

Maine Farmland Trust will present a conference on farmland access, in partnership with Land For Good and American Farmland Trust on Monday, Oct. 19, from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. at The Commons, Pineland Farms, New Gloucester.
