Scarborough native leads Monks to win

Scarborough’s Carolyn Freeman, a sophomore at St. Joseph’s College in Standish, connected for four three-pointers and scored a total of 22 points to help lead the Monks to a 76-63 win over Albertus Magnus College on Saturday in New Haven, Conn.

Freeman also added five assists in the win, which moved the Monks to 12-5 overall on the season.

On Jan. 21, Freeman was named the Maine Women’s Basketball Association’s player of the week after she scored a season-high 25 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in a win over Mount Ida College.

Two local athletes earn NAC honors at UMaine-Farmington

A Cape Elizabeth and a Scarborough native were among the 18 athletes at UMaine-Farmington to be awarded North Atlantic Conference All-Academic honors.

Nicole Lyons of Cape Elizabeth, a senior on the field hockey team majoring on elementary education and Kathryn Schwarz of Scarborough, a senior on the women’s soccer team majoring in community health were honored recently.

To be honored, a student-athlete must be at least a junior and have competed a minimum two years in their sport with a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.50.
