Scarborough’s girls began their indoor track season Saturday without breaking stride. The defending Class A champs piled up 135 points to easily win their first meet. South Portland (32) finished second and Catherine McAuley (29) was third.

Later in the day, the Riots guys team collected 120.5 points to hold off the Red Storm (86.5) in a meet also held at the Portland Expo. Marshwood (12) finished third.

The Scarborough girls had a long list of individual winners on the day, led by Cara Snyder (jr. 40 and jr. 200), Christina Cange (sr. 40 and sr. 200) and Annie Mills (300 and jr. hurdles), who took two events each.

Other Red Storm winners were Megan Summerson (jr. 400), Erin McElwain (jr. 800), Allison Chamberlain (sr. 400), Kaitlynn Saldanha (sr. 800), Becky Sither (sr. hurdles), Angie Damon (sr. shot put), Erica Jesseman (mile) and Devon Leighton (high jump).

Abbey Cook (jr. shot put) and Lindsay Soule (600) won events for South Portland.

On the boys end, Alex Gato (high jump and sr. hurdles) had a pair of victories for the Riots, while Will Cabana (int. 300), Brian Huynh (jr. 600), Tanner Burgdoff (jr. hurdles), Tom McCoubrey (shot put) and David Hardison (int. hurdles) also took firsts.

Scarborough boys who broke the tape included Brendan Hamm (jr. 40 and jr. 300), James Mina (sr. 40 and sr. 300), Brian Van Dam (200 and int. 40), Tyler Nelson (sr. 600), Brecht Moulin (400), Henry Prosack (mile), Chris Harmon (800) and Josh Flynn (int. 600).

Cape Elizabeth’s track squads began their regular seasons with a meet Friday at USM. Both teams made strong third place showings in fields of seven (boys) and six (girls) teams.

The boys compiled 120 points to finish behind York (160) and Greely (142). The Lady Capers finished with 101 points, behind Greely (182) and York (170).

Kevin Harrison led the boys with three first-place finishes (sr. 200, triple jump and long jump), while Daley Gruen took the sr. 55. Susan Tuttle (jr. hurdles) was the sole winner for the Cape girls.
