Farwell visits Hollis students

Children’s author Cathryn Falwell of Gorham recently visited kindergarten-Grade 3 students at Hollis School.

“When I visit schools and libraries, I tell the children that I’m a very lucky person because my job lets me do the things I really love to do: write stories, make pictures and visit kids. As a writer and illustrator of more than 20 picture books, I get excited about ideas and creativity. When I present programs for children, I get a chance to share my excitement with them,” Falwell said.

Falwell uses props, artwork, press sheets, word cards and puppets in her program to cover creativity, imagination, ideas, writing, illustrating, concepts, stories, skits and how books are made. The students at Hollis worked with shapes and colors to see how she made illustrations for her books.

She showed them her soon-to-be-published new book, “Shape Capers,” which is a book about kids playing with shapes.

Some of her books include “Turtle Splash,” “Countdown at the Pond,” David’s Drawings,” “Butterflies for Kiri” and “Word Wizard.”
