A mime and dance performance is this month’s installment of the “Women in the Performing Arts” series at Warren Memorial Library.
Karen Montanaro will perform “Tanzspiel,” a mime and dance, featuring original choreography, on Thursday, Nov. 20. An entire baseball game plays out with Montanaro performing all the roles, including the avid baseball fan, the patient catcher and an incredibly flexible pitcher.
Montanaro studied at the Joffrey School of Ballet and is a principal dancer with the Portland Ballet Company. She recently was selected as the winner of the 2008 Individual Artist Fellowship grant from the Maine Arts Commission.
The monthly performance series features a variety of female performers, some with male partners, in theater, dance, and music. The goal of the series, funded by the Cornelia Warren Community Association, is to inspire girls of all ages toward achievement in the performing arts.
Starting at 6:30 p.m., there will be an informal and interactive “Meet the Performer” session for youth interested in the performing arts. The free performance will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Warren Memorial Library Auditorium at 479 Main St. in Westbrook. To reserve seats or for more information, call the Library at 854-5891.
