– Terry Horr honored for extensive work at The Cedars –
Cape Elizabeth resident Terry Horr was given the prestigious Governor’s Service Award for her volunteer work at The Cedars, where she has offered her assistance almost daily for the past year and a half. The award, presented by Governor John Baldacci at the Hall of Flags, was in recognition for her 1,445 cumulative hours of service she has provided to the residents of The Cedars. Ms. Horr was one of just one hundred recipients of the award statewide for 2005.
The Governor’s Service Award is presented to volunteers who have given a minimum of 500 hours of work to a single organization. Nominations are made by that organization.
Ms. Horr was also named Volunteer of the Year at The Cedars during the annual volunteer recognition dinner on April 14, 2005. When receiving her award Terry was heard to say, “I can’t believe I’m being honored for visiting with my friends.” Over seventy volunteers were recognized during the event for their service to the organization.
“Terry is just incredible,” said Jodi Freedman, Coordinator of Volunteer Services at The Cedars. “She comes in every day before she goes to work and helps bring residents down to the dining room for their breakfast; then helps them get back to their room,” she said. On weekends, Ms. Horr helps residents to church services. “She has a very personal relationship with all of the residents, and is the only person I know who can tell you every resident’s history – in particular, what they did for work during their lifetime.”
