Sometime before 1842, a store of sorts was located at the corner of Falmouth Road and Route 202. According to one historian, “people in this neighborhood were partial to rum.” The bearded gent shown here is Seward M. Baker. He and his brother, Isaiah inherited the store from their father, Ichabod. Seward Baker was at one time “high sheriff of Cumberland County.” He never married, but ran the store until he and his brother mortgaged it and eventually it was foreclosed. The building was sold to Andrew Morrill who moved it to Morrill’s Corner (now called the Rotary) where it stood until it was torn down to make way for an auto supply business.
