Bells will be ringing as hundreds of runners and walkers hit the streets of Freeport on Sunday, Dec. 2 to fight arthritis.

Windham will be well-represented in this year’s Jingle Bell 5K fun run/walk by a talented team of members of the Windham Middle School cross-country team and some parents. Team WooKeeMarMarTaliJoe is captained by Doug Green, assistant coach of this year’s Middle School cross country team that includes Woody Laliberte, Keegan Brennan, Mary Margaret Green, Talia McKay and Joe Mycock.

These kids represent some of the top talent from this year’s school team. Other members of the Jingle Bell 5K team include Paula Pock, coach of the Middle School cross country team, Linda Mycock, Terry Coggins-Bickford, and Melanie Harvey.

Team WooKeeMarMarTaliJoe is currently leading as the top fundraising team in this year’s event. Much of their fundraising efforts can be credited to Laliberte and Mary Margaret Green, who are currently ranked first and second as individual fundraisers respectively. Both Laliberte and Green are particularly dedicated to this cause as each of them has a parent who has rheumatoid arthritis.

This is Laliberte’s second year and Green’s fourth in running this race. Their fellow school teammates and parents rallied to support them, formed a team and hopped on the fundraising bandwagon. To date, they have raised over $2,000 for the Arthritis Foundation, Northern and Southern New England Chapter.

Arthritis affects more than 46 million Americans, including 300,000 children, and is one of the leading causes of disability in the United States.
