Skibicki awarded USM scholarship
The University of Southern Maine has announced that Anastasia Skibicki of Westbrook, a nursing student, has been awarded the Women’s Board of the Maine General Hospital Nursing scholarship.
Skibicki, a 2008 graduate of Bonny Eagle High School, is the daughter of Douglas Skibicki of Buxton.
UNH dean’s list
Four Westbrook students have named to the dean’s list for the spring semester at the University of New Hampshire in Durham, N.H.
Lauren Messer and Kathryn Violette earned highest honors. Sarah Foster and Rachel Williams were recognized with high honors.
Fredette in USM graduate program
Denise Fredette of Westbrook, a University of Southern Maine graduate who majored in social and behavioral sciences, will begin graduate study in public policy and management at the university this fall.
Fredette recently attended Maine New Leadership, a six-day, non-partisan public leadership program in Orono. The program, which helps participants prepare for public and civic leadership, was sponsored by the Margaret Chase Smith Policy Center at the University of Maine.
The program was provided at no cost to selected college women from a wide range of socioeconomic, ethnic, racial, educational backgrounds and academic majors.
“It was an amazing opportunity,” Fredette said in a statement.
King staffer at City Hall July 11
A representative from U.S. Sen. Angus King’s office will be at Westbrook City Hall on Thursday, July 11, from 10 a.m.-noon. Residents are welcome to talk about their concerns.
Concert opens
park series
A series of free concerts on Wednesdays begins July 10, with the Westbrook City Band performing at Riverbank Park on Main Street, from 6-8 p.m.
American Legion Post 62 sells food and beverages during the concerts.
