Merritt G. Pride owned and operated the service station pictured at left at 922 Main Street for many years. He was also the owner of the Byron G. Pride Company at 543 Main Street which sold coal, wood, ice and in later years, fuel oil and heating equipment.

This business later became the Ace Gulf Service station, which was operated by Thomas and Peter Mendros.

This building was demolished in the late 1960s and Paul Albert had a modern brick building constructed to house a Maine State Liquor Agency store and Albert’s Prescription Pharmacy.

The liquor store and pharmacy later moved and the building was remodeled into a CVS Pharmacy, which occupied the building for many years before moving to 870 Main Street.

The site is now occupied by Friendly Discount.
