The Gorham Town Council will hold a workshop to discuss an amendment to the land use and development code, allowing land preservation.
The televised workshop will be on Tuesday, Aug. 22 at 7 p.m. in the auditorium at Gorham High School
The council will talk about a transfer of development rights program, which is being proposed to preserve open space in town. Under the proposal, developers could increase the number of house lots in new developments served by public water and sewer.
In exchange for those so-called “bonus lots,” developers would pay the town a set fee to be used to buy open space or development rights on parcels like farmland in other areas.
Mike Phinney, chairman of the council, wanted to ensure that residents knew smaller lots would be allowed in neighborhoods impacted by the change.
