Greely and Falmouth High Schools finished first and second in both the boys and girls ranks at the Western Maine Conference track meet Saturday. On the girls side, Greely came out on top and Falmouth won for the boys. In the girls meet, York was third and Cape Elizabeth fourth. Cape’s boys’ team took third and York was fourth.
In the girls meet, Greely had 180.5 points followed by Falmouth with 145.5, York with 111, Cape with 56, Traip Academy with 34, Poland with 32, Wells with 27, Yarmouth with 22, North Yarmouth Academy with 21, Freeport with 12, Lake Region with eight and Gray-New Gloucester with two points.
Hannah Werneth won the girls junior shot put for Greely with a throw of 33-4 3/4 to help them toward their final point tally. Emily Detroy was sixth for the Gray-New Gloucester Patriots with a throw of 26-2 1/4. In the senior division, it was Greely on top again. Becky O’Brien won with the first ever 50-foot throw by a Maine girl when she hit 50-6. Lauren D’Ascanio of Lake Region was third with a throw of 31-7 and teammate Amanda Place was fifth.
Cape’s Emma Hockmuth was the winner in the girls’ pole vault. She cleared the bar at 7-6. Runner up Katie Hurley of Greely cleared the same height but took more attempts to do it.
In the girls’ high jump Traip’s Braelan Martin leapt 4-6 to take the junior division crown. Becka Sarson of York was second. In the senior division it was Poland’s Chelsea Bernardo who won with a jump of 5-4.
In the long jump, Greely’s Hillary Cederna jumped 17-3 to win it. Taylor Piers of Falmouth was second. The triple jump went to Chelsey Tewell of York with a jump of 32-7 A?3?4. Piers was second again.
The Capers claimed a victory in the 4×800 meter relay. They clocked in with a time of 10:14.01. That was more than 20 seconds ahead of second place Falmouth. Gray-New Gloucester placed eighth.
Abby Diehl of Greely won the 55-meter junior hurdles in 9.23 seconds. Carley O’Brien of Traip was second. In the senior division, Tewell won in 8.65 seconds followed by Katie Hurley of Greely.
Kelsey Lewia of Wells claimed the top spot in the junior division 55-meter dash with a time of 7.81 seconds. Kate Lavallee of Cape Elizabeth was fifth in 8.15 seconds. In the senior 55, it was Tewell on top again followed by Cederna of Greely.
The girls’ one-mile run was a close finish. Liza LePage of Greely won the race in 5:24.11 with Marita Stressenger of Cape in second with a time of 5:24.31.
The 800 saw Francesca D’Alfonso of Falmouth emerge with the win. Three Capers followed her, Stressenger was second in the race with a time of 2:34.82 followed by Rachel Nichols in 2:34.92 and Hannah Doss in 2:37.43.
Madeline Grygiel won the two-mile run in 12:03.40 with Michaela Swiatek second. Cape’s Erin Gross was fourth.
Falmouth won the junior 4×200 meter relay with Greely finishing second. Cape was fourth and Gray-New Gloucester was sixth. In the senior 4×200, Greely won with York taking second. Cape was ninth and Gray-New Gloucester was tenth.
In the boys meet, Falmouth won with 174 points followed by Greely with 139, Cape with 71, York with 68, Poland with 39, Gray-New Gloucester with 36, Freeport with 36, Traip with 36, NYA with 15, Fryeburg Academy with 14, Lake Region, with nine, Yarmouth with nine and Wells with five.
With a throw of 38-5 1?2, Cam Woodford of Poland beat Cape’s Tom Foden by four inches in the junior shot put. Zeth Horr of Gray-New Gloucester was third. Falmouth’s Kristopher Floridino won the senior shot put with a throw of 48-4 3/4. Sean Meagher of Cape was fourth and teammate Calvin Klopp was fifth.
Dallin Thomas of Falmouth won the boys’ pole vault by clearing the bar at 10-6. Connor Yost of Freeport was second. Cape’s Curtis Dulac was seventh.
York’s Dan Herbein won the junior high jump with a leap of 5-8. Matt York of Poland was second. Tristan Lacey of Lake Region took third. The Capers finished sixth through ninth, with Ezra Wolfinger taking sixth.
Falmouth’s Tom Winger won the long jump with a jump of 21-6 1/4. Second place went to Nate Martin of Greely. Cape’s Brendan Shields was fourth. Winger also won the triple jump with Shields finishing second. Ian Wallace was fourth in the triple jump for the Capers.
Greely won the 4×800 meter relay in 8:50.38. Traip was second. Gray-New Gloucester took third in the race. Lake Region was ninth.
Alec Dunn of Falmouth won the junior 55-meter hurdles ahead of Greely’s Austin Spencer. Cape’s Jon Bass was fifth followed by Lacey of Lake Region. Peter Colesworthy of Greely won the senior hurdles in 8.23 seconds. Falmouth’s Sam Cobean was second.
Shields won the junior 55-meter dash for the Capers with a time of seven seconds flat. Traip’s Chris Ockerbloom was second. Foden picked up third place points for the Capers in that race. Ben Miklovich of Gray-New Gloucester won the senior 55 in 6.75 seconds.
Ethan Shaw of Falmouth won the one-mile run in 4:32.35. Second place went to Mark McCauley of Greely. Cape’s Matt Rand was third in the race with a time of 4:40.89.
Greely’s James LePage won the 800-meter run, just edging Shaw. LePage clocked in at 2:03.68 with Shaw close behind at 2:03.91. Liam Kalloch and Cameron Betts were fifth and sixth for the Patriots.
Michael Collins of Traip won the junior 200 with Wegener second and Will Danielli of Gray-New Gloucester coming in third. Seitz won the senior division, followed by Chipman.
Rand won the two-mile run for Cape Elizabeth with a time of 10:12.36.
The Falmouth relay teams swept the junior and senior 4×200 meter relays. Greely was second in the junior division with Cape taking third. Lake Region was fifth. York was second in the senior division. Gray-New Gloucester was fifth and Cape was eighth.
The Class B state championship meet is set for Monday, Feb. 18 at Bates College.
