Gorham police summonsed two Gorham teenagers and a Limerick man late Wednesday in connection with an alleged underage drinking party at a home in Gorham.
The summonses stemmed from a Feb. 18 party allegedly attended by members of the Gorham High School boys’ hockey team, according to Gorham Police Chief Ron Shepard.
Shepard said Thursday a 17-year-old male has been charged with furnishing liquor to minors and a 15-year-old male has been charged with furnishing a place for minors to consume alcohol. Both juveniles were from Gorham. Shepard also said one adult, Gregory D. Bradford, 22, of Limerick, has been charged with furnishing liquor to a minor. Police have not released the names of the juveniles and would also not confirm if the two teens attended Gorham High School.
“We’re fortunate that nothing drastic happened as a result,” Shepard said about the incident. “Kids have to realize that there are consequences to the actions.”
Officer Wayne Drown, the high school resource officer, issued the three summonses at the Gorham police department. Shepard said the two Gorham juveniles were released to custody of their parents.
Lt. Chris Sanborn of Gorham police said the department is beefing up enforcement of underage drinking violations after recently receiving a $2,000 grant. Gorham received the grant through the Cumberland County Underage Drinking Enforcement Task Force.
“We’re taking a pretty tough approach enforcement wise,” Sanborn said.
Shepard said police were stepping up enforcement with extra details between now and graduation. “It should serve as a warning,” Shepard said about the summonses issued this week.
