Jotul open house and showcase

Jotul North America is having an open house from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 26, at the company’s headquarters, 55 Hutcherson Drive, in the Gorham Industrial Park.

Activities include wood-burning stove demonstrations, workshops on alternative heating solutions and discussions and a Jotul stove sweepstakes. The workshops will be at 10:30 a.m. and noon.

Complimentary refreshments will be served.

Dancers visit New York

Four dancers from the Centre of Movement School of Performing Arts on State Street recently studied and performed in New York City.

Accompanied by their parents and Vicky Lloyd, who is their instructor, Amanda Bell, Paul McIntosh, Mariel Roy and Amelia Whitten performed in competition and studied with master teachers at the Dance Educators of America convention July 1-9 at the Grand Hyatt in New York City.

The Gorham group received gold awards for 12 of the 14 categories they entered. McIntosh and Roy placed second nationally for their hip-hop duet and McIntosh was first runner up in Mr. DEA – Dance Educators of America competition.

McIntosh, Roy and Bell attended workshops in New York City on scholarships they earned in regional competition. Bell and Roy took master classes at ‘Tap City” and McIntosh was accepted and attended the pre-professional program at “Tap City.”

“They had a great time learning and competing, saw Broadway shows, were on the Today Show, ate at the delis and in general had a rewarding and exciting trip,” Lloyd said.

Wright earns scholarship

The University of Southern Maine has announced that Courtney B.E. Wright has been awarded the Laura B. Hansen Scholarship.

Wright is a special education masters candidate in the extended teacher education program at the university. She achieved her bachelor’s degree from Granite State College this year and she is a graduate of Fryeburg Academy in 2001.

She was recognized at an annual award ceremony this past spring at the University of Southern Maine.

Delta Knights in concert

The Delta Knights will perform in concert 6:30-8 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 8, in the gazebo on the lawn at the Municipal Center.

The concert is part of a free summer concert series sponsored by Gorham Recreation Department.

Gleason on dean’s list

Benjamin P. Gleason has been named to the dean’s list for achieving a high academic standard in the spring semester at the University of Rhode Island in Kingston, R.I.

Gleason earned the honor as a sophomore.

Class of ’66 plans 40th reunion

The Gorham High School class of 1966 is hoping to locate several classmates for a reunion.

Libby, Cindy Berry Leavitt, Linda Walker, Pamela Mills Caldwell, David B. Cobb, Roger Minard, Terri Bruno Peterson, Donald Bean, Alfred Seal, Roland Deering, Martin Bodge, Dorinda Hamlin, Eric Christensen and Donna Doughty Cox.
