The trial of a former Gorham tax clerk begins at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 5, in Cumberland County Superior Court in Portland.
Laura Anderson, 32, of Arundel, who had worked for the town as an assistant tax collector, motor vehicle agent and customer service clerk, is accused of forgery and theft.
After an investigation last spring, the town turned the case over to the district attorney’s office. A grand jury indictment charged Anderson with stealing between $1,000 and $10,000. She pleaded not guilty before Judge William S. Brodrick at an arraignment in June.
Town Manager David Cole fired Anderson in a letter on April 27. Cole’s letter said Anderson had improperly processed 75 transactions and that she had “committed financial irregularities including theft of funds.”
She was suspended from her job on March 15.
