A Connecticut-based distributing company is moving into the Saunders Business Park.
According to Vin Veroneau, president and chief executive officer of J.B. Brown & Sons, which owns the park, Velocity Express is slated to move into its newest location within the next 30 to 45 days.
Veroneau said some renovations, including adding 1,400 square feet of office space, need to be completed before the company can move into the 18,500-square-foot warehouse.
“We’re excited to have them as a tenant,” he said.
J.B. Brown bought the former Saunders Brothers dowel mill in April 2007 and transformed property into 134,000 square feet of office and warehouse space.
Other tenants that have moved into the park include Woodfords Family Services, a nonprofit which provides support for people with special needs; Group Main Stream, a nonprofit organization that serves people with developmental disabilities; Bio-Oregon, which sells and distributes fish feed to hatcheries; Maine Expedited Freight, and Moore Concrete Pumping.
“I think the mix of use in the location is going to be perfect for (Velocity Express),” said Keith Luke, director of economic and community development for the city.
He said having a distribution company in the park off of Larrabee Road is appropriate, considering its proximity to the Maine Turnpike. In addition, the trucks used by the company will bring the city thousands of dollars in excise taxes, he said – an area in which the city has lost a lot of revenue in the economic downturn.
“It’s good news for Westbrook,” he said.
Velocity Express has more than 150 locations throughout the county, according to its Web site.
