When Maureen Canty hit a deer on Spurwink Avenue at about 9:30 p.m. June 30, it was just the beginning of a bad evening. Canty, 33, of 130 Milk St., Fitchburg, Mass., was driving with a suspended license and had a warrant out for her arrest. Issued in 1996 in York County, the warrant alleged she had failed to pay a fine for a conviction on an unspecified charge. Canty was taken to Cumberland County Jail.
Son assaults parent, goes to jail
A 15-year-old resident of Eastman Road was arrested at noon July 2 on a charge of domestic violence assault on one of his parents. The alleged offense had occurred at about 8 a.m. that day. The boy had run away from his home when police came to look for him. Police were able to locate him around noon, according to Capt. Brent Sinclair.
Fight inquiry finds drugs
A report of a fight on Spurwink Avenue just after midnight July 3 brought two officers, Vaughn Dyer and Scott Thompson, to the scene, where they stopped a car thought to have been involved in the incident. The driver, Zakry Smith of Spruce Swamp, Buxton, was summoned for illegal transportation of marijuana. While there was evidence of a fight – scrapes, cuts and bruises – none of the parties involved would admit to fighting, according to Capt. Brent Sinclair.

Complaints
On June 24 at 1130 hours I, Sgt. Kennedy, met with a local care provider regarding an alleged assault complaint. The case is under further investigation. A patient is the alleged victim, and an employee of the nursing home is the alleged assaulter.
On June 24 at approximately 1234 hours, a resident of the Mitchell Road area came to the police department to report that he lost his Scarborough beach pass. He is not sure where or when he lost it, or whether or not it was stolen. To get a new pass, the beach ranger informed him to fill out a police report.
On June 24 at approximately 1450 hours I, Sgt. Steindl, spoke with a resident of Huntington Beach, Calif., who wished to file an Internet fraud complaint. The complainant had purchased a pair of skis through PayPal on E-Bay from a Cape Elizabeth resident, and upon receipt discovered the bindings were broken. The buyer had contacted the seller, but the seller insisted they were broken during shipping. I advised the complainant this matter was civil in nature but an attempt would be made to contact the seller.
On June 24 at approximately 1515 hours I, Patrolman Gaspar, met with a resident of the Old Ocean House Road area regarding a theft of tools. A suspect has been identified and the case is under further investigation.
On June 24 at approximately 1838 hours I, Sgt. Steindl, met with a resident of the Mitchell Road area regarding a possible violation of a protection from abuse order. A relative and friend of an estranged spouse had stopped at the house to visit. Contact was made with them and were advised that although they were not named in the PFA order, due to the circumstances they should refrain from visiting.
On June 26 at about 1915 hours I, Sgt. Steindl, met with a resident of the Mitchell Road area regarding a dog at large complaint. The owner of the dog was identified and contacted and advised of the leash law.
On June 26 at approximately 1915 hours I, Sgt. Steindl, was monitoring traffic along Shore Road when I observed a motor vehicle violation. I conducted a traffic stop on Olde Fort Road. As a result the operator, Darcy Halvorsen, 38, was summoned for operating after suspension and operating an unregistered motor vehicle for longer than 150 days.
On June 27 at 0319 hours Sgt. Steindl and I, Officer Gaudette, responded to an address in the Spurwink Avenue area for report of the sound of damage being done. Several unopened cold cans of beer were located near a damaged railing.
On June 27 at 1530 hours, a resident of the Old Ocean House Road area came to the police station to report she had lost her Samsung cell phone sometime during the past week and was unsure of where or when it had been lost.
On June 27 at 1825 hours a resident of the Shore Road area came to the police station and dropped off a set of keys that he had found on Casino Beach. There are two keys on a ring with a blue nylon strap that is labeled Polo Ralph Lauren. There is nothing on the key ring to identify the owner. The keys have been tagged and placed in dispatch.
On June 27 at approximately 2008 hours I, Patrolman Gaspar and Sgt. Steindl responded to a residence in the Spurwink Avenue area to conduct a well being check. Contact was made with the resident, and concerned family members were advised.
On June 27 at approximately 2058 hours, an employee of a local business found an elderly person wandering outside. The person seemed confused as to her whereabouts. The person was identified and returned home.
On June 27, a resident of South Portland came to the police station with a Canon camera he had found at Fort Williams near the beach parking lot.
On June 28 Officer Dorval and I, Officer Gaudette, responded to a report of juveniles partying in a wooded area along Ocean House Road. Three juveniles were detained and issued warnings for possession of alcohol and trespassing. Arrangements were made for their return home.
On June 29 at 2330 hours I, Officer Gaudette, met with a resident of the Spurwink Avenue area regarding a missing juvenile. The juvenile had left the house after an argument with a parent. Subject later returned home.
On June 29 at about 0930 hours a resident of the Shore Road area recovered a Verizon flip phone from the dirt parking lot of Fort Williams Park. The display screen on the phone is damaged and numbers on it cannot be viewed. Phone was placed in the Lost & Found box in dispatch.
On June 29 at about 1610 hours I, Patrolman Dyer, met with a parent and two teenage boys of the Broad Cove area regarding an alleged verbal threat communicated to them while fishing along the Spurwink River. I checked the area but was unable to locate the suspect. I did speak with other fishermen who gave a different account of what happened and indicated the kids had created a problem. The parent was contacted and case closed.
On June 30 at 0940 hours I, Patrolman Thompson, met with a subject regarding service of protection paperwork. Contact was made with the defendant and paperwork served.
On June 30 at about 0900 I, Sgt. Kennedy, met with a resident of the Sawyer Road area regarding damage to his lawn and driveway done by construction vehicles.
On June 30 at about 1515 hours I, Patrolman Dyer, met with a resident of the Shore Road area regarding a burglary into a vacant house. Investigation later showed that it was likely some young kids playing around, trying to get into a locked shed in the yard.
On June 30 at approximately 1616 hours I, Sgt. Steindl, met with a resident of the Ocean House Road area regarding a possible violation of a protection order. Case is under further investigation.
On July 1 at approximately 1445 hours I, Patrolman Gaspar, met with a subject at Fort Williams Park who turned over a black and blue duffle bag. The bag contains some money, sun block and a water bottle.
On July 1 at approximately 1611 hours I, Sgt. Steindl, spoke with a local care giver regarding some missing medication. A suspect has been identified, and the case is under further investigation.
On July 1 at approximately 2150 hours I, Patrolman Gaspar, met with a resident of the Mitchell Road area regarding a harassing phone call.

The Cape Elizabeth Fire Department responded to a fire alarm on Pine Point Road June 29, an alarm activation on Sunny Bank Road at 4:02 p.m. June 29, an alarm activation on Cooper Drive at 4:04 p.m. June 29, an alarm activation on Trundy Road at 4:35 p.m. June 29, an alarm activation on Cross Hill Road at 7:05 p.m. June 29, a fuel leak on McAuley Road at 3 p.m. July 1 and a mutual aid call to Scarborough at 4:47 p.m. July 2.
The Cape Elizabeth rescue squad responded to 10 calls between June 29 and July 3, transporting four patients to Mercy Hospital and three to Maine Medical Center. Three calls did not require patient transport.

A vehicle driven by Donna Weatherbie was involved in a collision with a vehicle driven by Rachel Sama on Route 77 June 29.
A vehicle driven by Traci Greer was involved in a collision with a vehicle driven by Jordan Toothaker in the IGA parking lot July 1.
