Memorial Day events begin at 8 a.m., with a ceremony for deceased veterans at the Veterans’ Circle at Woodlawn Cemetery on Stroudwater Street.
Immediately following, there will be a ceremony at the grave of Stephen W. Manchester, the namesake of American Legion Post No. 62.
The city’s Memorial Day Parade starts at 10 a.m., with Fred Davis as grand marshal. The parade will be formed at the intersection of Longfellow Street and New Gorham Road and end at Riverbank Park.
At the park ceremony, the city’s roll call for deceased citizens will be read. For those interested in obtaining a copy of the roll call it may be picked up at City Hall, The American Journal, Warren Library,or Walker Library.
In case of bad weather, the parade and park ceremonies will be canceled.
Gorham
The town will have two parades. At Little Falls, the parade starts at 9 a.m. at the South Windham Fire Station on Gray Road. It stops on the bridge to toss a wreath in the Presumpscot River, continues to Hillside Cemetery on Huston Road for a ceremony.
In Gorham Village, participants will line up at 10 a.m. on Lincoln Street near the Village School. The parade starts at 11 a.m., marching to South Street for wreath laying at Phinney Park. It continues from South Street down Main Street to Eastern Cemetery for a ceremony. It continues to New Portland Road and White Birch Lane.
