Foye golf tourney raises $7,000
The first Jim Foye Memorial Golf Tournament Sept. 8 at Gorham Country Club raised more than $7,000 benefiting scholarships for Westbrook High School seniors.
The tournament in memory of Foye, who died in March, drew 36 teams with a total of 144 players. It was “as good as any tournament I’ve played in,” said Terry White of Westbrook.
“A super time,” Peter Foye, a cousin who played in the tourney, said.
Jim Foye and his brother Mark owned a Westbrook business.
The team winners were:
A flight: 1st Todd Kent, Jason Hebert, Thomas Hebert and Aaron Schimke; 2nd Jeff Joyce, Bryan VanDike, John Dixon and Glenn Amico; 3rd Bob Blais, Jim Blais, Andrew Blais and John Blais.
B flight: 1st Peter Levecque, Jason Levecque, Mike Francoeur and Gary LaPierre; 2nd David Good, Gary Fournier, Peter Green and Nate Hawkes; 3rd Toby Hanson, John Nugent, Pat Perreault and David Perreault.
C flight: 1st Mark Gartley, Brian Walsh, Shawn McCurdy and Dan Enman; 2nd Craig Bernier, Dick Bernier, Scott Wescott and Cliff Wescott; 3rd Dave Rocheleau, Doug Butterfield, John Wilson and Paul Gallant.
D flight: 1st Hal Leighton, Vance Leighton, Mike Thompson and Sonia Thompson; 2nd Colleen Hilton, Bill Hilton, Patty Amico and Anthony Amico; 3rd Chris Harnois, Alfie Lefebvre, Jim Goodman and Dick Bornstein.
The tourney contest winners were Tim Maloy, closest to the pin, 3.5 inches; and Matt White with longest drive, 310 yards. Paul Concannon of Westbrook won a drawing for Patriots tickets.
“The scholarship benefits Westbrook High School graduating seniors who exemplify the qualities that made Jim the man we all loved and respected,” said Tami Blake Hamilton, a tourney organizer.
Tournament organizers included Cliff Wescott, Steve Lampron, Mark Foye, Kathy Feldman and Hamilton.
New arrival
Samuel James Cataldi was born to Amander Wotton and Tony Cataldi of Windham on July 2.
Cataldi is a former Westbrook firefighter.
He weighed 7 pounds 7 ounces and 20 inches long. He is the younger brother of Isabella, Dominic and Gavin Cataldi.
His grandparents are the late Russell Wotton of Friendship; Kim and Preston Carter, also of Friendship; Arthurlene Eaton, Wells; Gary Eaton, North Berwick; and Scott Cataldi, Cape Neddick.
Class of ’62 reunites
The Westbrook High School class of 1962 recently celebrated its 50th reunion with 57 classmates attending a function at Portland Elks Club, a tour of the high school and a Casco Bay cruise.
Class secretary Connie (Afthim) Dwyer asked the class to remember each of the deceased 28 classmates of 160 with a time of silence and prayer.

LaVallee traveled the greatest distance.
The class will donate a granite bench to Westbrook High School along with a plaque for the Bob Anderson broadcasting room.
