Firefighters extinguished a fire in a wooded area in about 20 minutes on Monday behind Dumbo Enterprises off Longfellow Road in Gorham.

The Gorham Fire Department received the call at about 9:20 a.m. Firefighting equipment from three surrounding communities assisted Gorham. The Buxton forestry truck responded to the scene in addition to fire trucks from Westbrook and North Scarborough.

Ken Fickett, Gorham deputy fire chief, said one Westbrook firefighter was taken to the hospital after cutting his hand on a fire hydrant.

Fickett said nearby fire hydrants allowed firefighters to get the blaze under control quickly. “We were lucky on that one,” Fickett said.

Fire officials believe woodstove ashes fanned by the wind could have caused the blaze.
