Police have apprehended a convicted sex offender wanted on a Cumberland County Superior Court warrant for failing to register with police.
Jeffrey Young, 39, convicted in 1999 of sexually abusing a juvenile girl and again in 2005 for a second offense, has served two short jail terms, but has never fully complied with the Sex Offender Registry Act, according to police.
Westbrook police issued a press release Tuesday asking local media and residents to report any sightings of Young, who was described as a transient white male of small stature with red hair and blue eyes. After reports from residents, Portland police arrested Young Wednesday.
Young served a seven-day jail term for the 1999 offense, and a 60-day term for the 2005 offense. In addition to those convictions, Young also has a criminal history that includes convictions for criminal trespass, assaults, public indecency, bail violation and escape.
For his sexual offense convictions, Young is required by state law to register with the Maine State Bureau of Identification every 90 days for the remainder of his life.
