Buxton Town Clerk John Myers is reminding residents to license their dogs.
“We have over 1,200 dogs yet to be licensed for the new year,” Myers said recently.
Myers said all dogs six months and older must be licensed by Saturday, Jan. 31. “To license your dog you will need a valid Maine rabies certificate and altering certificate, if appropriate,” Myers said.
Buxton residents can get the licenses at the Town Hall (185 Portland Road), by mail or online at www.doglicensing.com.
Altered dog licenses are $6, and non-altered dog licenses are $11 each. An additional fee of $1 is charged if licensed online. Any dog licensed after Jan. 31 will be charged a $15-late fee. Each dog placed on the unlicensed dog warrant in March will be charged a $25-late fee. All dogs must wear their license tag at all times. The 2009 dog tags are in the shape of the state of Maine and are green.
