The Scarborough High boys tennis team is headed back to the Western Maine Class A championship match.
The No. 2 Red Storm (12-2) was scheduled to take on No. 1 Windham (14-0) on Wednesday for the regional championship at Bates College in Lewiston.
Scarborough has been dominant thus far in the postseason, having won both its matches 5-0 with all the wins coming in straight sets on its home courts. On June 4, the Storm ended the season of No. 7 Thornton Academy in the quarterfinals. The next day, Scarborough ousted No. 3 Marshwood in the semifinals, avenging one of its two regular-season defeats.
The Storm’s other loss came to Windham in the final match of the regular season on May 26, 4-1, but the team was without No. 1 singles player Adam Saltz for that match. With Saltz back in action in the playoffs, Scarborough should give Windham all it can handle. The Storm’s lone win in the regular season match actually came at No. 1 singles, with Nick Tolman moving up from his normal position at No. 2 singles to edge Windham’s Nate Johnson in three sets.
Last season, the Storm fell to Cheverus, 3-2, in the regional championship.
