The Maine Drug Enforcement Agency and Buxton police on Friday announced the arrest of Kenneth Hunter, 65, of Buxton. He was charged with Class B unlawful operation of a methamphetamine laboratory.

According to Steve McCausland, of the Maine Department of Public Safety, Buxton police and agents from the MDEA’s York District Task Force served a search warrant at 125 Old Thompson Road in Buxton, the single family residence of Hunter, on Tuesday, Dec. 15. Agents, while investigating information provided by Buxton police officers regarding suspicious activity at the residence, identified evidence of methamphetamine production in Hunter’s discarded trash.

With the assistance of the MDEA Clandestine Laboratory Enforcement Team, three “one-pot” laboratories were discovered at Hunter’s residence. Samples of the laboratories were seized as evidence. All hazardous waste products discovered were turned over to the State Department of Environmental Protection for disposal. The Buxton Fire Department assisted in scene safety during the laboratory seizures, McCausland said.

On Friday, after speaking with MDEA agents, Hunter turned himself in to authorities at the Troop A State Police barracks in Alfred. Hunter was transported to the York County Jail where bail was set at $2,000.

The investigation is continuing by MDEA and the Buxton Police Department and additional arrests are expected.
