The power is in voting at the May 20 town elections and the Town Meeting on May 21. The only way to make a change for your schools is to get out and vote.
People are upset, unhappy, and angry with the present situation regarding the schools and the budget.
It had been suggested at the public hearing on March 2 that if you are not satisfied with the present School Committee that you should vote at the elections and vote in new members. Now is your opportunity to do this – more now than any other time in the past. There are two positions to be filled on the School Committee. Let your vote be heard as a statement if you are not happy.
Being on the School Committee is no easy task. It is a lot of work at budget time and they can’t please everyone. You need to vote for the people you feel are up to the task. Don’t just sit back and complain without taking some action.
The polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on May 20 at Jordan Small Middle School. You can also vote by absentee ballot at the Town office by May 19.
Child-care has been provided in the past during Town Meeting. Please check with Jordan Small to see if it is available again this year. It is also important to know that the school budget will be voted on first this year.
It’s up to you. Please, let your vote be heard at the town elections and at the Town Meeting. Also, encourage family and friends to participate with you. As John Balentine stated in this paper on April 29: “Without you and your participation, it’s just a dead-end road to ignorance and ineffective government.”
