The rezoning of the Saunders Brothers mill from Industrial to Gateway Commercial to clear the way for Wal-Mart to possibly come to Westbrook (favors)

Good business makes good neighbors and helps taxpayers.

The additional site plan restrictions that limit the size of buildings in the Gateway zone developed by the Planning Board and approved by the City Council in response to the Saunders zone change (no answer)

I have no comment as I do not know what the Council approved.

Pay-as-you-throw trash pickup and curbside recycling (opposes)

Unless they make concessions for seniors.

The city purchasing land on Saco Street to market it as the Westbrook Heights Business Park (favors)

Again, business is numero uno for a good tax base.

How would you have voted on this year’s school budget? (opposed)

I think it could have been tightened more, and the state money should have been returned to taxpayers. I also think a new superintendent is in order at a much lower salary.

The potential redevelopment of Saccarappa Park as a combination commercial building/public park (no answer)

I really need more info on this but basically, I am in favor of what is best for the city’s tax base.

The City Council’s recent decision to add $150,000 to a capital improvement bond for playground improvements and the Westbrook Food Pantry (no answer)

I will always be in favor of helping the Food Pantry but dislike it being lumped with playground improvements. Again, I need more information.

Paper streets have been a major source of contention in the city recently. How would you have dealt with residents’ complaints about old paper streets being used for development?

Whatever is done, the residents who’ve paid taxes on these “streets” should be reimbursed with interest.

How would you settle the dispute between the city and the two local businessmen who purchased the old Cumberland Mills police station?

I have not been privy to the issues of dispute so I would need to know more.

What do you want to see done to improve parking in the city?

That’s a good question! Much as I dislike parking garages, it seems to be an option. I would want to look further into this problem.
