Woman’s club news

Nancy Kenty, district president, addressed the Gorham Woman’s Club on Oct. 13 in the First Parish Congregational Church.

She spoke about the affairs of the Maine Federation of Women’s Clubs. Nancy Tabor, Barbara Craig and Debbie Peyton were hostesses. Tea, coffee and an assortment of baked goods and fruit were served.

The Woman’s Club will meet next at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 10. A speaker from the Center of Grieving Children will make a presentation.

A district meeting will be held at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 12, at the First Parish Church and Suzanne Raymond of Dover Foxcroft will speak. Raymond, secretary of Maine’s Federation of Women’s Clubs, will speak about increasing memberships. A luncheon will be served at noon.

Gorham is in District 7, which includes Westbrook, Bath Parsonsfield and Limerick.

Projects this year include supplying book bags and books to 3-5 year olds at Baxter Memorial Library; awarding Gorham High School students scholarships; providing Kind News newspapers to 15 elementary grades; and supporting art in schools by providing four Gorham High School art contest awards.

Peyton said another “successful” project is selling historical Gorham throws for $45. She said the throws make great gifts and are available in maroon and green besides light and navy blue. They can be purchased at PoGo Realty in Gorham.

North Gorham talent show

The United Church of Christ at North Gorham is having a talent show at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 6, in the church.

The show, “Flavor of the Fifties,” is free and open to the public. “Refreshments will be served after the program, giving everyone a chance to meet our special performers – Frank Sinatra, Theresa Brewer, Julie London, Pat Boone and ALVIS,” said Janice Labrecque, church secretary.

Happy 50th anniversary

Mr. and Mrs. David Labrecque recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

They were married on Aug. 22, 1955, in Westbrook. She is the former Sally Parker.

They are the parents of Debbie Deering (Richard) of Hollis; Mark of North Anson; Gayle of Kingfield; Peter of Gorham; and Jim of Depew, N.Y.

They have 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Meet the candidates

Gorham residents will have an opportunity to meet the candidates for the Town Council and School Committee from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 3, at Baxter Memorial Library, 71 South St.

Refreshments will be served.
