Ellen Bartlett, the Prides Corner school nurse, shows off the new defibrillator donated to the school by the Joseph Foundation. The foundation was started by Maura DiPrete, mother of Joseph DiPrete-DiGioia, a 14-year-old athlete in Belfast who died in 2003 from a Sudden Cardiac Arrest during a cross-country track meet. The foundation has been giving away the $1,500 defibrillators throughout Maine. The units talk users through the process of using the machine as soon as the unit is opened. Sudden Cardiac Arrest is the number 1 killer on school grounds.
