Bonny Eagle’s wrestling team took on two of the top wrestling teams in the state last week when the Scots faced off with Noble and Massabesic.

Bonny Eagle and Noble met in a dual meet on Wednesday, Dec. 12, with the Knights scoring a 53-21 win. The Scots had wins at 103 where Ryan Cook won a 6-0 decision and at 112 where Dalton Groeger continued his strong early season with a 7-1 victory.

Steve Martin earned a pin at 160 pounds and Justin Labreck won a 9-5 decision at 215. The Scots’ other victory came at 189 where Joe Layte picked up a forfeit win. The teams shared a double forfeit at 285.

On Saturday, the Scots joined Massabesic as they took part in a tri-meet at Windham.

The defending Class A state champion Mustangs scored a 50-16 win against the Scots in their head-to-head meeting.

Groeger had another Bonny Eagle win as the Scots’ hard-working wrestler won the 112 weight class with a 15-5 victory. Joshua Strumph also won by decision at 130 pounds as did Martin at 160 and Layte at 189.

The Scots were scheduled to take on Westbrook at Westbrook on Wednesday evening and their next competition will be at next week’s Noble Invitational on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 28-29.

Windham’s wrestling team was dominated by that same Massabesic squad last Saturday. The Mustangs won 12 of the 14 bouts and rolled to a 72-10 win over the Eagles.

The Eagles’ two wins came courtesy of Jacob Greenwood (a 17-6 decision at 189) and Owen Baxter (a win by pin at 215).

Windham also took on Sanford on Wednesday, Dec. 12, and the Redskins topped the Eagles 54-6. Windham’s only win came from Jared Malier at 112 pounds – he earned a 4-1 decision.

The Eagle wrestlers hosted Cheverus and York on Wednesday evening and they’ll host Deering, Portland, and Westbrook on Saturday at 1 p.m.
