Matthew Libby of Scarborough is one of 26 young men and women from Maine recently nominated to attend military academies next fall.
Libby, son of Beth and Robert Libby of Scarborough, and a senior at Scarborough High School, was nominated by Rep. Tom Allen for the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, New York. The service academies will review the nominations from members of Congress and announce appointments in the spring.
“The opportunity to nominate such talented and bright young people for appointment to our nation’s service academies is one of the greatest privileges I have as a member of Congress,” Allen said. “Each of these fine men and women honor their families and the people of Maine by making the commitment to serve their country, especially when our nation is embroiled in armed conflict in Iraq and Afghanistan. I know that they will requite themselves with honor, courage and diligence.”
