The story regarding the Cape Elizabeth Town Council meeting (Feb. 15 Current) made it appear that I moved to recess the town council meeting because I did not agree with school board member Rebecca Millet’s comments made at our meeting.
The council was about to go into executive session for the purpose of doing the town manager’s annual employee evaluation. In fact, we had a finance committee meeting scheduled for later that evening, after the town council meeting, to discuss the issue of budget targets. I moved to recess the town council meeting for the convenience of the three school board members present so that they would not have to wait for us to conduct the evaluation and conclude our town council meeting.
Second, my statement that “no action would be taken” was in reference to town council’s executive session regarding the town manager’s evaluation, not in reference to the finance committee meeting.
