Scarborough High School’s Academic Decathlon Team performed well during the national competition in Chicago on April 16 and 17.

The team placed sixth in Division III; 10th overall in Superquiz (out of 40 states); and 19th in the entire competition. Two team members won three individual medals. Kerry Jones won a bronze in math and was ranked fourth in language/literature. Noah Cohen won a bronze in math and a bronze in language/literature.

Cohen, Jones, Stephanie Guitard, Jon Russell, Matt Schaefer and Kenton Whipple each won a year’s subscription to Scientific American as an award for outstanding achievement in science. In addition, Russell, Cohen, Guitard, Whipple and Schaefer all ranked in the top 10 in two of the 10 subject areas tested.

Other team members are Jake Oliver, Chris Buttarazzi and Dan Willey. Teacher Ellen Ross coached the team.

The team and coach thank the many people and organizations who supported the team in this endeavor. We have been blessed with a community that appreciates and supports the extra efforts made by our young people, our future.
