Like most things I write about, I’ve actually tried the Tax Aide service from AARP. It’s free and extremely helpful. This year, the following sites in this area can offer seniors help with their taxes.

Lyman: Lyman Community Library, Thursdays 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. through April 17. Appointment required. Call 229-6011

Scarborough: Scarborough Public Library, 48 Gorham Road, Wednesdays 4 to 7 p.m. through April 17, appointment required: 883-4723

Southern Maine Agency on Aging, 136 US Route 1, Fridays 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., appointment required. Call 396-6500.

South Portland: South Portland Public Library, 482 Broadway, Mondays 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., no appointment necessary. Open through April 17, closed Feb. 20.

AARP State office, 1685 Congress Street, Portland, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesdays. No appointment necessary.
