Six candidates are seeking their party’s nominations in the June primary for legislative seats representing Gorham.

Incumbent Sen. Philip L. Bartlett, D-Gorham, and former state Sen. Carolyn M. Gilman, a Republican, will both be unopposed on the primary ballot for their party’s nomination as a candidate for Senate District 6.

Bartlett defeated the then incumbent Gilman for the seat in November of 2004. Relocating from Westbrook, Gilman now lives in Gorham.

Senate District 6 includes Gorham and parts of both Scarborough and Westbrook.

In nominations for House District 129, Rep. Chris Barstow, D-Gorham, is seeking another term and is unopposed as the Democratic Party’s candidate. Harold “Butch” Freeman, an Iraq war veteran, is seeking the Republican nomination for that House seat and he’s unopposed. In his first run for public office, Freeman was defeated in a bid for the Town Council last fall.

Rep. David Farrington, D-Gorham, is also unopposed for his party’s nomination for reelection to his House District 130 seat, which includes part of both Gorham and Buxton. Republican Ryan H. Harnden is unopposed for his party’s nomination to the seat.

The deadline for filing was 5 p.m. on Wednesday, March 15. The primary election will be held on June 13.
