Several years ago the Casco Selectmen appointed a committee of nine people to study the town hall/gymnasium. After many meetings that I attended, the committee voted to repair/remodel the building .

Shortly after the committee’s recommendation, it was discovered that School Administrative 61 would be closing the Casco Memorial School. Because the town hall/gymnasium did not have room to expand if needed for town office use and the school was larger, the school would make a better location for the town office.

This would allow the town hall/gymnasium to be repaired and opened for endless uses including as an emergency shelter, for recreation for young and old, meetings, crafts and sports.

The people previously voted not to close the building. The cost of tearing down is $122,350, the cost of repair to get the building back open is 525,000 with commitment of a group to raise $75,000, bringing the cost down to the taxpayer to $450,000.

Are we ready to tear down this building? Once torn down it cannot be replaced. I urge all of you to vote no on Question 4 and allow this village building to be repaired and re-opened as a multipurpose building for all to enjoy.
