Only one candidate has returned nomination papers for one of two seats available on the Gorham Town Council in the municipal election on Tuesday, Nov. 7.

Brenda Caldwell, the former town clerk, filed her nomination papers on Aug. 22, according to Deputy Town Clerk Connie Loughran. Caldwell retired in December 2004 after 28 years as town clerk.

Caldwell became a deputy town clerk in 1976, and succeeded Ralph Newell as clerk the following year.

Councilors Cal Hamblen and Matt Robinson are not seeking re-election.

The list of candidates is not final, however. Town Clerk Christina Silberman said some potential candidates have taken out nomination papers, but have not turned them in. “We have some still out,” she said.

No one has submitted nomination papers for the two available seats on the school committee. Jim Hager, board chairman, and Marie South, a former chairwoman, both have said they intend to run for re-election.

To be included on the November ballot, candidates for both the council and school committee need to file their nomination papers by 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 22.
