The Gorham Business & Civic Exchange is hosting a luncheon and discussion about how the Gorham bypass will affect businesses,
Thursday, Oct. 25, at 11:30 a.m., at the new town municipal center, 75 South St., behind Baxter Memorial Library.
Town Manager David Cole will speak.
Dana Redmond, executive director of the business exchange, said after nearly 50 years years of talk and planning, construction of Phase 1, the southern route, of the bypass has begun. Construction crews have already cleared a stretch of the 3/4-mile road that will connect Routes 114 and 25 just outside Gorham Village.
Currently, Flaggy Meadow Road is closed for construction at Cressy Road to build the first bridge that will carry the road over the new bypass. Two hills will be joined by a bridge and the bypass will go under. This closure is expected to detour traffic at least one month.
The cost is $12 for business exchange members and $15 for guests. Reservations are required.
