The Loon Echo Land Trust is is looking for volunteers to take part in summer trail maintenance on the Ledges Trail at Pleasant Mountain Preserve on Saturday, July 25, starting at 7:45 a.m.

Ledges Trail adopters, including the Maine chapter of the Appalachian Mountain Club, schedule three work days each year to keep trail infrastructure functioning well.

“Guests to Loon Echo’s 28 miles of hiking trails genuinely appreciate the efforts of our volunteer trail adopters,” said Loon Echo’s Stewardship Manager Jon Evans. “Ledges Trail is very popular and requires extra consideration, so work days like this are very beneficial and allow anyone with an interest in trail work to come and learn techniques from experienced adopters, all while giving back to their community.”

The work involves cleaning drainage ditches, clearing the trails of debris, clipping brush, closing off social trails and trail hardening. Tools and training will be provided, but you should come prepared with work boots, pants, gloves, water and food. Don’t forget your camera because there will be great views along the way. Interested volunteers should meet Loon Echo staff at the Ledges trailhead, located 3 miles down Mountain Road from Route 302 in Bridgton at 7:45 a.m. This will be a strenuous day lasting about five hours. In the event of heavy rain or thunderstorms, the event may be canceled or shortened.
