In just another month, we will once again be honoring our servicemen and women of Westbrook with a Memorial Day parade. A parade that will wind-up at the monument at the park on Main Street.
This monument, unveiled in 2003, was to honor all our veterans, but apparently an oversight was made in that the “Korean” war veterans were not included. I, as a Korean War Veteran, ask the veterans organizations of Westbrook, as well as the city of Westbrook, please, look into this matter. We did have a large number of men and women serving in the armed forces during the Korean War, and they shouldn’t be forgotten as was “that War.” In the October 20, 2004, issue of the American Journal, I wrote an article on this matter, and it was apparently overlooked with all the election announcements covering the biggest part of the page. Since then I’ve gone to city Hall, and I’ve called them (City Hall) on this matter, but to no avail.
