This Sunday, motorcycle clubs from all over Maine will be taking part in a ride to collect Christmas toys as well as raising money for the victims of Hurricane Katrina.

The “Toy Run” is an annual event said Al Croteau of the Saracens Motorcycle Club. But this year, in response to Katrina, Croteau said he wants to also see how much money Maine’s motorcycle clubs can raise for the victims of the disaster. He is asking everyone who takes part in the toy run to donate just $1 toward the relief effort.

With last year’s event attracting 40,000 to 50,000 people, Croteau said he hopes to raise a significant amount of money. “I’d love to see Maine’s motorcycle clubs send down $50,000 to $60,000,” he said. “That would be awesome.”

Croteau said motorcyclists from all over the state would be meeting at the Augusta Civic Center at noon Sunday. From there, the bikers will head over to the Windsor Fair Grounds on the outskirts of Augusta to drop off their toys and cash donations. For more information, call Croteau at 595-1587.
