The Cape Elizabeth High School Class of 1959 has been busy planning their reunion for Saturday, June 25, 2005, in Windham, Maine.
The reunion committee consists of local area residents: Fran Doughty Hewins, Sue Hartford Clukey, Becky Brown Bouderau, Nancy DiMatteo Hall, Jessie Moulton Timberlake, and Miriam Leighton Ayers. We have collectively put together a fun-filled party for the 30 out of the 38 classmates who are planning to attend.
An idea to donate an engraved granite bench to the middle school (our former high school) in memory of our deceased classmates was overwhelming received. The committee decided we needed to raise money to pay for the bench. Last fall we talked with local artist, Rose Kennealy, who agreed to paint a watercolor of our high school.
The painting completed, the raffle tickets printed and the sales started last week.
Tickets will be sold at sporting events and area businesses around the Cape through June 10, 2005. The winning raffle will be selected at the reunion and the winner notified by telephone.
If you cannot get out or would like to purchase tickets to help benefit the high school please call 207-767-1098 for assistance. The price for one raffle is $5.00 and to purchase three is $10.00.
Placement of the memorial bench in front of the Middle School is Monday, June 13, 2005. Classmates from all over the country have sent donations. They have encouraged us to move forward to see if we might be able to give back to the high school in some other way. George Stone, who lives out of state, wrote to suggest we take time at our reunion to remember our deceased classmates with a story or something humorous about them. This was a wonderful suggestion and we plan to follow his lead.
Another suggestion that came from this committee was to see if it might be possible to have an alumni page linked to the High School. Wendy Derzawiec, the Town Webmaster researched the suggestion with other schools to achieve implementation of this web link with the High School. We encourage those you know from previous graduating classes to go their appropriate class and input their information. The class of 2005 will soon be CEHS Alumni and may want to consider getting their information input as well.
