Two men were arrested in connection with burglarizing Mains’ Pizza in Raymond June 26.
One of the men, caught hiding near the restaurant the night of the burglary, quickly posted bail. The other was arrested July 3 and faces arraignment July 25.
William Wood, 20, of Raymond, was found hiding nearby the restaurant before being arrested and charged with burglary, theft and criminal mischief.
Richard Berry, 21, of Casco, was later arrested following an investigation by Sheriff’s deputies.
During a routine patrol Monday night, June 26, Deputy Mathew Tufts of the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office found one of the restaurant’s windows broken and suspected there was a burglary in progress. At 11:30 p.m., Tufts found Wood hiding behind a tree before taking him into custody.
“It was an example of great police work,” said Cumberland County Detective Dan Goulet. “Deputy Tufts knows the area and immediately knew something was wrong.”
Although only Wood was arrested, police officials suspect there were more individuals involved in the burglary.
Matthew Mains, owner of the restaurant, was called by police and informed about the burglary around 11:40 p.m., just after Woods was placed into custody.
“I’m upset… but it’s a fact of life. I feel sorry for them. It’s going to be a strain on their life,” said Mains.
Wood was arraigned on June 28 and made bail, set at $500.
Sheriff Mark Dion said the investigation continues, and further arrests are expected.
